In this video, we dive into the story of the McPhaul Suspension Bridge—often called Arizona’s “Bridge to Nowhere.” Built in 1929 north of Yuma, it was once the longest suspension bridge in the state, designed to span the Gila River and accommodate growing transportation needs. Named after Henry Harrison McPhaul, this engineering feat eventually fell into disuse when a newer concrete bridge was built in the 1960s, and the Gila River below it dried up. Today, it stands as a striking historical landmark—an isolated structure that beckons history buffs, photographers, and curious travelers eager to glimpse a relic of Arizona’s past.
